Awarded Silver at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026, the Asthma + Lung UK Breathing Space Garden was conceived as a restorative landscape designed to encourage calm, reflection and wellbeing.
Working alongside Angus Thompson Design and dpa Lighting Consultants, LightGraphix supplied discreet exterior lighting solutions to support the garden’s carefully considered evening atmosphere.
The lighting strategy focused on subtle integration and low visual impact, allowing planting, materiality and spatial experience to remain the primary focus throughout the garden.
As described within the lighting concept, the scheme was intentionally understated — blending seamlessly into the environment while using warm, carefully controlled illumination to support wayfinding, texture and atmosphere after dark.
Miniature spike-mounted spotlights were used to accentuate feature pine trees and sculpture, while concealed LF10D flexible linear lighting was integrated beneath benches, around level changes and within landscape details to provide soft guidance through the space.
Low glare recessed uplights illuminated perimeter niches and vertical surfaces, adding depth and warmth while minimising glare and light pollution. Throughout the project, fittings, cabling and containment were discreetly concealed to preserve the calm visual language of the garden during daylight hours.
By evening, the lighting quietly extends the tranquillity of the space — creating a gentle transition from day to night and reinforcing the garden’s role as a place to breathe and contemplate.
